I am fairly new to Charlotte and it was refreshing to meet a group of women who could relate to the challenges and positive attributes of working in public (and private) accounting. I really enjoyed myself and look forward to the next meeting. – Donna, Miller McNeish & Breedlove, PA
The Charlotte Chapter’s Women’s Initiative held its second quarterly event in January 2015. We once again decided to meet at the Roosters in South Park. We love their private room and the ambiance!
We started the lunch with announcements from the chapter. Then we broke up into small groups. Each group had a person in charge of leading the discussion. The women’s initiative steering committee had prepared questions to help guide the conversation.
After a round of introductions, we placed our food orders and commenced our small group discussions. This meeting’s theme was negotiation skills. The text selected was Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher and William Ury.
Negotiation skills are important from both a personal as well as business experience. We all started ranking our negotiating abilities, and then compared and contrasted various experiences we had.
We ended with a group discussion and information about future events.
Our next Women’s Initiative event will be a networking/happy hour event at Dogwoods in South Park on March 26th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Be on the lookout for invitations.
Our next quarterly book club meeting will be in May 2015 on the topic of team work. The text selected is The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable by Patrick Lencioni. Also, be on the lookout for that invite.
If you are interested in getting involved with the women’s initiative, we would love to have you join our steering committee. Please email Melisa Galasso at [email protected] to join!
