Since the Enhancing Audit Quality initiative was launched in 2014, the AICPA has continued to see improvements in audit quality as a result of its collective efforts with state CPA societies. As part of the initiative, the AICPA implemented several programs that promote audit quality and support the profession’s ongoing commitment to quality improvement. A new report, AICPA Enhancing Audit Quality Initiative, Highlights and Progress 2016, highlights the progress since the 6-Point Plan to Improve Audits was issued in 2015.
On a state level, NCACPA has worked with its committees and discussion leaders to provide resources and continuing education focused on improving audit quality. Our efforts included:
- Creating a brand-new Employee Benefits Committee that supports members through outreach efforts, timely educational opportunities, technical resources, and local and national advocacy efforts related to employee benefit plans
- Including updates in CEO Sharon Bryson’s “Focus on the Profession” CPE courses
- Hosting a collaborative meeting with NCACPA’s Not-For-Profit, Governmental Accounting & Auditing, A&A, and Employee Benefit Plans Committees to identify how NCACPA could best help its membership address the quality issue.—Read a summary from this meeting
- Publishing content in our magazine, Interim Report, and on our website, such as a blog post by Immediate Past Chair Dan Purvine, “The Quest for Quality“
- Developing a free 4-hour CPE course entitled, “Drive Your Competitive Edge with Audit Quality,” which was presented by Hunter Cook and Art Winstead in the fall of 2015
