Changes are underway to improve online filing and payment of withheld income taxes in North Carolina.
The NC Department of Revenue updated its NC-5/NC-5P withholding online file and pay application on June 5, 2023. The application has a new user interface similar to the NCDOR’s income tax online applications (e.g., D-400V, CD-429) and includes the following enhancements:
- Taxpayers with a closed withholding tax account can file their final or any missing returns online.
- Taxpayers whose filing frequency is adjusted by the NCDOR may file for their current and prior filing frequencies online.
Businesses can still use the eBusiness Center to file and pay withholding tax returns, although the features in that application will not change.
