NCACPA recently learned that some LLCs in North Carolina had experienced difficulty with paying their franchise tax liability online. Thanks to NCACPA’s advocacy efforts, NCDOR officials have corrected the issue.
Since the state offers a credit of $175.00 for the additional annual report fee, some LLCs were left with a franchise tax liability of only $25.00. Unfortunately, the online payment system at NCDOR would not allow online franchise tax payments for amounts less than $200.00, and these businesses were forced to submit payments by check for the balance.
Our Advocacy team alerted the NCDOR to the issue, and the department swiftly corrected the online payment limitation.
Special thanks goes out to NCACPA member Camron Faulkner, CPA, with Justin Mosca, CPA, PC in Wilmington for bringing this issue to NCACPA’s attention.
