Katherine M.R. Bosken became North Carolina’s 13th Commissioner of Banks, August 31, 2021, upon confirmation by the House and Senate in the North Carolina General Assembly. She was reconfirmed to a new four-year term on March 23, 2023 with her term ending March 31, 2027. Commissioner Bosken was previously appointed Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs in 2016, after serving as Bank Supervision Attorney since 2013.
Bosken graduated from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland with a B.A. in Computer Science and International Relations, and from Wake Forest University School of Law, with a J.D. She has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 2006 and is an inactive member of the Maryland bar. Bosken started her career in private practice, handling a wide range of litigation matters with a North Carolina law firm, and has litigated matters in federal and state courts in both North Carolina and Maryland. She has focused her practice on depository issues since 2010 and has been responsible for advising and counseling the Commissioner and staff on policy matters regarding depository and non-depository supervision. She was nominated to serve as Commissioner of Banks by Governor Roy Cooper on July 1, 2021 and renominated on January 27, 2023.

Becky joined Waverly in April of 2024 when McShane Partners was acquired by Waverly Advisors, LLC. She serves as Partner, Wealth Advisor and Director of Financial Planning. Becky was a “big four” tax consultant for over 25 years before transitioning to wealth management in 2019. She has advised individuals and businesses on complex tax and financial transactions domestically and internationally. As a wealth advisor she assists clients with financial planning, tax planning, executive compensation, and estate planning. She also advises clients on the financial impact of divorce including property settlements and spousal support.
Becky enjoys working with clients to help them feel confident about their finances and help them make decisions to achieve their goals. For her it is extremely gratifying to become a trusted advisor that her clients rely on for such an important aspect of their life.

In my current role as Principal and Client Relationship Leader, I focus on building and cultivating relationships, as well as supporting over 1,500 professionals across CLA’s Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) practice as we work together to create opportunities for our clients and communities.
Prior to my current role, I worked for over 10 years in the areas of internal audit, risk management and financial reporting, with a focus on serving the financial institutions industry. I have an extensive background working with internal audit, internal controls, COSO, Sarbanes-Oxley, enterprise risk management, corporate governance, financial reporting and the application of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles. In serving in these roles within financial institutions, my experience also includes working directly with banking regulations and FFIEC interagency guidance, bank regulatory authorities, and overseeing safety & soundness examinations.
