IS A KEY PERSON PROGRAM.

By building relationships with legislators, NCACPA is able to position its members as the experts that lawmakers should go to when they need input on important state policies. To be successful, the Association must maintain a robust database of key persons to liaise with lawmakers when urgent issues or challenges arise regarding legislation.

What is a Key Person?

A Key Person is a CPA who understands that individuals (not in government roles) can make a huge difference in the governmental policy-making process. Something as small as a letter via snail mail to a legislator is impactful.

At NCACPA, a Key Person’s responsibilities include:

  • Providing grassroots input on “hot topics” that arise in government spaces
  • Reviewing any background information distributed to you about said topic
  • Calling, writing, emailing, or even visiting your legislator regarding the topic

Don’t personally know a lawmaker? That’s ok! NCACPA has the resources and people you need to help guide you through the process.

There are two ways to get involved as a key person through NCACPA:
Existing Relationship with Legislator

If you already have an established relationship with a North Carolina lawmaker, please let us know by filling out the form below. We will work to create an opportunity to collaborate with legislators of key interest to the profession, who also have personal relationships with our members.

Willingness to Contact Legislator

If you do not have an existing relationship with a legislator, but are willing to contact those in your district, let us know by filling out the form below. We may ask you to contact your legislator when issues affecting the CPA profession arise—it will be as simple as an email or a call, and NCACPA will provide you the email copy and/or telephone script.
