NCACPA’s Pipeline Roadmap:
A Focus on Strengthening the Accounting Profession in Our State
The North Carolina Association of CPAs is committed to addressing the dwindling pipeline of accounting professionals through a strategic, multi-year roadmap primarily focused on four areas. Our initiative builds on established programs and the broader AICPA Pipeline Acceleration Plan, and concentrates resources on:
- High School and College Strategies
Seed early interest in accounting by illustrating the variety of career opportunities within accounting. - Addressing Firm Culture and Business Model Challenges
Evolve the way of doing business to reflect a changing landscape in the profession, which intertwines with the Association’s efforts on another strategic front (firm transformation). - NC CPA Foundation and Scholarships
Continue our efforts to reduce the financial barrier for all aspiring CPAs and accountants to enter the profession. - 30-hour Communications Campaign
Clarify the path to achieving the required 150 hours for CPA licensure, including highlighting core competencies desired in new professionals.
In addition to these targeted efforts, NCACPA is engaging in research to better understand the specifics of the local pipeline challenges and is coordinating efforts through each pillar of its strategic plan (Advocacy; Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion; Engagement, Governance & Operational Effectiveness; and Professional Development). This comprehensive approach addresses immediate and localized needs, and ensures the sustainability and future growth of the accounting profession in North Carolina.
