Winning an NC CPA Foundation Scholarship: Jordan’s Story

By: Jordan Miller

When I was an undergraduate accounting major at UNC–Charlotte, I applied for an NCACPA scholarship.  I figured that even if I didn’t win a scholarship I would still at least receive a free student membership to NCACPA for applying.  I was home for the summer when I received the check in the mail and was so excited! At that point in time, that was the most money that my bank account had ever seen!  My mom was a single parent and couldn’t afford to help me with the ever rising costs of college education, so this scholarship helped me breathe a little easier and stress a little less the next school year.

Receiving the scholarship encouraged me to give back to NCACPA.  Since they had invested in me, I wanted to prove that I had a high rate of return, so I applied and became the first student liaison for the Young CPA Cabinet.  I am now a part of the Member Connections Committee and am primarily responsible for planning my office’s involvement in the CPA Day of Service.  I look forward to continued involvement with NCACPA (which all started with a scholarship)!
