Almost three years ago, the idea for a CPA Day of Service in North Carolina was born. As staff and volunteer leaders planned for the inaugural event in 2012, the excitement began to build. We knew this event had the potential to be big, but we were all completely overwhelmed by the responses that began pouring in as September approached. The once seemingly long-shot goal of 1,000 volunteers was left in the dust as registrations ticked upwards of 2,000 volunteers.
Our members latched onto the charge to engage in their communities and found a wide array of avenues in which to give back. In its first year, the CPA Day of Service broke records and completely redefined what success could look like for an event of this kind. There could be no greater evidence of the enthusiasm and synergy than in the numbers themselves:
- 2,260 volunteers
- 130 cities reached
- 119+ charitable organizations impacted
- 115 participating firms
Now as we look ahead to September 20, 2013—the next CPA Day of Service—we’d love nothing more than to beat last year’s event totals. The heart and momentum already in place stand only to catapult us past last year’s numbers.
So how can you get involved? It’s simple, really. The first step is to save the date—mark your calendars; tell your friends; and think about your charity.
