Today, April 7, 2017, Governor Roy Cooper announced Ron Penny as leader of the Department of Revenue.
Penny has served as Acting Secretary of Revenue since January 2017, and his first job out of college was in the Department of Revenue mailroom.
He previously served as chair and associate professor in the Department of Public Administration at NC Central University, and as state personnel director for eight years.
Penny earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, and his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
