Sessions

Thursday, May 13, 2021 (8:05 am–9:05 am ET)

General#1: The Next Normal: Lessons to Carry Forward from the COVID-19 Pandemic
Dr. Gary Kohut, PhD ( UNC Charlotte-The Belk College of Business, Charlotte, NC ),

Life and work have drastically changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Whether it’s where and how we work, overcoming new demands or living with constant change, one thing is certain: “Normal” is now a term that describes the past. The next normal is going to be different. It will not mean going back to the conditions that prevailed in 2019. We have seen how disruption creates opportunities for creativity and innovation. While the beginning of the pandemic was a mad scramble, it created a situation for individuals, organizations, and government to reconfigure their operations with many reaping benefits in terms of increased efficiency.

In this session participants will learn about accelerating trends, new impacts, and critical shifts affecting the future of work and recommended actions. Barring any unexpected catastrophes, we can start to look forward to shaping the future rather than just grinding through the present. In some ways, that next normal could be better. With effective leadership, the changes described in this session could provide an enduring foundation for the long term.
