The NC legislature has convened its 2021 session with a broad agenda. The NC Chamber has defined three pillars of focus activities with multiple initiatives under each. We will examine one initiative from each pillar in detail.
* Session 1a (30 min) * Composition of the Legislature * Legislative priorities * Session 1b (60 min) * NC Chamber Pillar 1 – “Education and Talent Supply” * Overview * “We will work closely with the NC Community College System to identify policy reforms and initiatives that deliver quality education, strengthen advisory support, training, upskilling/reskilling, increase access for currently employed and displaced workers, end ensure a high-quality teaching force. A continued examination of funding methodology, along with regional collaboration among higher education entities, provides a pathway for these types of opportunities.” * Detailed exploration of specific elements of this initiative * Session 2 Learning Objectives (120 min) * Session 2a (60 min) * NC Chamber Pillar 2 – “Competitive Business Climate” * Overview * “The NC Chamber is committed to bringing value-driven health care to NC in order to improve health outcomes and make costs more predictable and affordable. For this reason, the NC Chamber supports new legislation that will meaningfully establish association health plans in our state.” * Detailed exploration of specific elements of this initiative * Session 2b (60 min) * NC Chamber Pillar 3 – “Infrastructure and Growth Leadership” * Overview * “The NC Chamber will champion the connection between educational attainment and broadband adoption. We will support efforts to strengthen broadband infrastructure grants, broaden access to digital devices, improve affordability and adoption, and enhance availability in unserved areas." * Detailed exploration of specific elements of this initiative
