This course focuses on the historical perspective of African Americans in the accounting profession starting from 1921 to current day. The course will cover the historic and systemic barriers to entry, the accounting profession’s response, and current approaches to diversity in the profession. In addition, the course will highlight selected individuals that were instrumental in advancing African Americans in the profession.

Objective

* Understand the historic and systemic barriers to entry into the accounting profession and the persistence and resilience required to overcome them * Recognize the accounting profession’s evolving response to diversity * Identify key individuals in the movement to advance African Americans in the profession * Identify current practices to promote diversity in the accounting profession
