Dan Ariely, a professor of psychology and behavioral economics at Duke University has written a book, The Honest Truth about Dishonesty which documents his research on why people have so much trouble being honest and playing by the rules. The human characteristics described in the book point out the challenges for CPAs, as humans, to comply with the rules of our profession. This program blends Ariely’s work with the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct to point out potential problems.
Participants will learn the requirements in the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct addressing * Integrity * Objectivity and Independence * Offering or Accepting Gifts or Entertainment Also, examine human tendencies that present compliance challenges
Examples of rationalization, distancing from the object, and the influence of gifts offer real life issues CPAs face in performing their professional duties that challenge their ability to be completely compliant with the Code.
