Description

This interactive and entertaining session teaches a revolutionary approach to skepticism that enhances professional reasoning and judgment. A recent scientific study conducted by Toby Groves indicates this approach can dramatically improve clarity and effectiveness in information screening and interpretation over traditional approaches to skepticism. Attendees will experience the fascinating experiments from the study and learn the surprising psychology and invisible influences that impact skeptical judgment. They will discover the secret to matching levels of skepticism to evidentiary characteristics, organizational culture, and situational context. They will learn how judgment can be refined by turning the lens of skepticism back on themselves, recognizing and adapting their approach to achieve the best results.

Objective

Attendees will learn * how decision aids such as checklists affect skepticism * the differences between logic and insight related to skeptical judgment * two different types of problems and how to differentiate how to apply skepticism to those types of problems * how to recognize type 1 and type 2 errors in skepticism and how the types of errors affect skeptical judgment

Highlights

* Three dimensions of skeptical cognition * The role of situational awareness in skepticism * How to determine the reliability and validity of evidence * Knowing how to match skeptical reasoning to the environment * Learn how to uncover hidden biases that damage skepticism
