Mark Soticheck Named Inaugural Recipient of NCACPA’s “Taking it to the Max” Award
February 01, 2012
Mark Soticheck, CPA, of Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP, in Raleigh has been named the first-ever “Taking it to the Max” Award recipient. Mark received multiple nominations and will be recognized at the associations’ Annual Business Meeting on May 1 in Greensboro.
Mark’s association involvement began when he was selected to be a Young CPA Cabinet member in 2007. During his two-year term, he aided in the Cabinet’s success and made great strides in the financial literacy effort. Mark spearheaded an initiative with NC State’s Masters of Accounting program where the students not only learned the fundamentals of financial literacy, but were also charged with educating their community. The program was a big success and has since been duplicated at other universities across the state. His passion led to his involvement in the Financial Literacy Council, where he now holds the position of Chair. In May of 2010, he was selected to serve on NCACPA’s Board of Directors.
The “Taking it to the Max” Award was established by the Young CPA Cabinet after the unexpected death of 2011–12 NCACPA Chair Max Mukelabai as a way to honor his legacy. Max championed engagement in the accounting profession and challenged young association members to “come in, learn, listen, and then, obviously, stay engaged.” Max set an example of engagement through his service and was the first member of the Young CPA Cabinet to come up the ranks and serve as association chair.
This award recognizes a former Young CPA Cabinet member who exemplifies the meaning of engagement—a person who continues to make outstanding contributions to the association and the profession even after their Cabinet service is complete.
