About NCACPA
Headquartered in Raleigh, the North Carolina Association of
Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA) is the only statewide
professional organization for CPAs in North Carolina.
Chartered in 1919, the association has grown tremendously
since its inception, from a mere 20 founding members to more
than 12,000 today. More than 65% of the CPAs in North
Carolina are members of NCACPA; with approximately 49% in
public practice, and the remaining 51% comprised of CPAs in
industry, government, and education.
NCACPA is governed by a board of directors comprised of a
president, president-elect, treasurer, immediate past
president, and 15 additional directors selected primarily
from the local chapters and committees. The association has
11 chapters located throughout the state.
NCACPA also has more than 30 committees, task forces, and
advisory groups that regularly interact with the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants, North Carolina
State Board of CPA Examiners, Financial Accounting Standards
Board, the Internal Revenue Service, and other bodies that
shape state and national accounting standards.
Continuing Professional Education
NCACPA is perhaps best known for its comprehensive annual
curriculum of continuing professional education (CPE). The
association offers more than 400 seminars, classes, and
specialized conferences, enabling CPAs to satisfy North
Carolina’s mandatory 40-hour CPE requirements and inspiring
them to maintain the highest professional excellence.
Representation and Advocacy
NCACPA also gives a collective voice to CPAs that is heard
and respected by industry regulators, state and federal
government, business leaders, and the general public. NCACPA
actively works with the North Carolina General Assembly, the
State Board of CPA Examiners, the North Carolina Department
of Revenue, North Carolina Department of Insurance, North
Carolina Office of the Treasurer, Local Government
Commission, North Carolina Department of Health and Human
Services, North Carolina State Auditor’s office, and the
Governor’s office. Nationally, NCACPA works closely with the
AICPA to interact with senators and representatives in
Washington, DC.
Professional and Community Development
NCACPA is equally committed to creating new opportunities
for CPAs to better serve and protect their clients, their
industry, and their communities. Through its NC CPA
Foundation Inc., NCACPA provides numerous scholarships and
other monetary contributions to aid current and future
members of the accounting profession in North Carolina.
NCACPA additionally administers the peer review program for
all NCACPA and AICPA member firms in the state of North
Carolina, handling the reviews of more than 1,400 firms
enrolled in the program. The association also actively
engages in student recruitment across the state, and has
partnered with CareerBank.com to create the largest online
career network in the accounting industry, with more than
10,000 job postings and 50,000 resumes from accounting,
finance, and banking professionals.
Financial Literacy
Savings rates are at an all-time low and personal bankruptcy
at an all-time high. Too many families live
paycheck-to-paycheck, or worse, they live beyond their
means, using high interest rate credit cards and payday
loans as supplemental income. It’s a terrifying but
reversible trend.
The North Carolina Association of CPAs is proud to be
leading the state’s financial literacy efforts. Our goal is
to help North Carolinians reduce debt and build wealth, and
by doing so, strengthen the state’s economic standing and
financial future. CPAs and other financial professionals are
in a unique position to improve the overall financial health
of our country, starting at the grassroots level. In 2006,
the Financial Literacy Council was created to address the
growing problem with Financial Literacy and to spear-head
association efforts.
Information Resources
NCACPA is a one-stop source for news as it relates to the
CPA profession in North Carolina. Through its website,
chapter newsletters, personalized email, and fax broadcasts,
the association keeps its members well informed about the
latest accounting news, educational opportunities, and
association-related business. NCACPA membership also
provides additional benefits including affinity programs,
online CPE registration, CPE discounts, and career
resources.
The association’s website, www.ncacpa.org, provides the
latest information on all association activities and the
most up-to-date information on CPE sessions and conferences.
Members can securely register online for all association
programs, and the “Members Only” section allows for
member-to-member communication through the technical
assistance program and the membership directory. The site
also features a student section, a job bank for posting
resumes and open positions, valuable links, recent press
releases, local and national news, and member updates.
NCACPA also produces several publications, including:

association’s annual financial statements, member updates,
topical information of general interest to CPAs, and
legislative-related articles.
