What is the Young CPA
Cabinet? The Young CPA Cabinet is a diverse group of energetic CPAs, age 35 and under, who serve as the voice of young CPAs in North Carolina and enhance the value of NCACPA membership for its younger members and future leaders. “New-School” CPAs One thing you can count on: Cabinet members are not “old-school” accountants. These are CPAs on the go, hosting networking and social events throughout the state. While remaining quite focused on its goals, the Cabinet also believes that the CPA profession is only as engaging as you make it—and they have decided to make it fun! Pioneers North Carolina is one of only a handful of states that offers a program specifically designed to meet the needs of younger CPAs. Created in 2002, the Cabinet has surpassed its original expectations. Most notably, the Cabinet sponsors an annual Young CPA Conference. This event has become the model by which other states are building their own programs. The conference continues to attract the state’s best and brightest. Surveys You've just completed another successful busy season. The firm was busier than ever, and all the clients still got their returns and statements on time. Extensions are filed. Things are getting back to "normal." But your superstar just walked into your office and gave two weeks' notice. The peaceful picture that was beginning to return has suddenly become a crime scene. Somebody—or something—stole your MVP. What happened? In December 2006, the Young CPA Cabinet surveyed two groups of young CPAs: those who left public accounting and those who are still there. Although we focused on the responses of those who left, we wanted to evaluate them in light of the views expressed by those still practicing. Here are the survey results segmented by members in business & industry and public practitioners. An article summarizing the findings can be found on page 63 of the June issue of Interim Report.
