a calendar year?

40 hours of CPE between January 1 and

Q: How is CPE credit calculated?
A:
CPE programs are measured by program length, with one
50-minute period being equal to one CPE
credit. Participants must round down,
not up.
-
Half-hour credits will be accepted
for CPE after the first full hour of
credit is earned.
A half hour is equal to 25 minutes;
a full hour is equal to 50 minutes.
-
CPE self-study is limited to 32
hours per year and is computed on an
hour-for-hour basis.
-
As part of the annual CPE
requirement, all active CPAs must
complete two hours of ethics in a
group study format or four hours of
ethics in a self-study format.
-
Refer to the

Q: I want to take a self-study
course. Is there a problem if I complete
the work this year but do not send in my
test until late December?
A:
Maybe. The sponsor’s certificate of completion
is the only independent verification of
the completion date for the self-study
course. If the certification of
completion is dated in January, you
cannot claim credit for the CPE for the
previous calendar year. (Keep in mind
that you may not claim more than 32
hours of self-study annually.)

Q:
Do NCACPA programs qualify for Certified
Financial Planner (CFP) credits?
A:
CFP-approved courses are identified in
all of NCACPA’s promotional material by
&. CPAs holding a CFP credential
must take their continuing education
from a vendor registered with the CFP
Board of Standards.
Sign-in sheets will be available at all
NCACPA CFP-approved seminars. To receive
credit, members must sign in and provide
their FP certification number. NCACPA
will route these sheets to the course
vendor for subsequent submission to the
CFP Board. Due to the complexity of
NCACPA conferences, individual
conference sessions will not be
submitted to the CFP Board.
Educational requirements for CFP
credential holders are 30 hours of
continuing education each reporting
period. This means two hours from a CFP
Board-approved program on CFP Board’s
Code of Ethics and Professional
Responsibility and/or Financial Planning
Practice Standards; and 28 hours from
one or more of the topics approved by
the CFP Board. NCACPA’s Professional
Ethics and Conduct seminar does not
satisfy the CFP ethics requirement since
it does not review the specific
professional standards set by the CFP
Board.
If you have questions or comments
regarding CFP credit you received
through NCACPA, please contact Robin
Erbec, CFP Board of Standards, at
cesponsor@cfpboard.org.

information, visit the
CFP
website.

Q:
Do NCACPA programs qualify for
continuing legal education (CLE)
credits?
A:
Many of NCACPA programs will qualify for continuing legal
education credits. At your request,
NCACPA will submit CPE programs to the
North Carolina State Bar under our
sponsorship agreement. Be aware, North
Carolina State Bar rules require courses
are submitted within 45 days of
occurrence or by December 31. Taking a
course in November or December? Let us
know in advance and we’ll take care of
the approval request. Legal
professionals will be responsible for
reporting, record maintenance, and
associated CLE fees.
Some NCACPA programs such as conferences
and Don Farmer Tax Seminars are
submitted in advance for CLE approval.
These courses are identified in all of
NCACPA’s promotional materials by the
CLE icon
