Young CPA Cabinet

Young CPAs in North Carolina are those willing to lead the profession in this state in a variety of ways. A special cabinet has been created to address the needs of CPAs aged 35 and under. Specifically, we intend to bring together young CPAs through a variety of social and service events. Additionally, we have developed an annual conference devoted entirely to young CPAs. Ultimately, we want to recruit young CPAs who will become the leadership of the profession in future years.

2007-2008 Action Plan
Strategy:           Action:
Maintain consistent communication with chapters and committees. Select Cabinet members as liaisons for the various NCACPA chapters/committees. Review action plans of all the chapters/committees. Contribute regular updates to Interim Report.
Stay in touch with conference attendees. Determine some type of tax season/year-end care package.
Stay in touch with young CPAs throughout tax season/year-end. Send periodic emails ("we're thinking about you" and "hang in there"); promote post tax season networking events, too.
Update web content. Consider external links, better Cabinet member information, and RSS feeds. Develop additional ways to promote the Cabinet and young CPAs in NC.
Publicize the results of the recruitment/retention survey. Include these as a part of Jim Ahler's professional issues updates at chapter events and conferences.
Communicate value of Cabinet participation to employers. Write letters to employers of Cabinet members to thank them for their support.
Hold Young CPA conference. Work w/staff to plan/prepare the annual conference in Greensboro. Improve offerings to industry, and ensure industry representation on the conference planning subcommittee.
Implement YCPA branding. Distribute logo items as giveaways at Cabinet-sponsored events.
Continue to increase value of networking opportunities for young CPAs. Host events throughout the year in major metro areas. Include at least 3 collaborative events with chapters and/or committees. Also hold 3 lunches/year in each of CLT, GBO, RDU.
Combine CPE with networking events. Offer 2-hr ethics programs followed by a networking event (1 program/year in CLT, GBO, RDU).
Increase the interaction between the Cabinet and chapters. Each Cabinet member will attend at least one local chapter event/year.
Broaden scope of public activities. Sponsor a Toastmaster club. Launch in Raleigh and roll out to CLT, GBO depending on success and interest.
Encourage young CPAs to give something back to the profession and larger community. Determine interest and possibly lead a team of NC young CPAs (10) to assist with Gulf Coast relief efforts. Partner with existing agencies and infrastructure.
Increase the Cabinet's knowledge of Financial Literacy efforts. Invite Financial Literacy to present during the Cabinet's first meeting. Develop a plan to support FinLit based on that presentation.
Support Student Recruitment efforts. Increase efforts in this area by contacting and working with local chapters.
Maintain consistent communication with chapters and committees. Attend Leadership Retreat.
Provide leadership development for young CPAs. Continue to hold Cabinet meetings (in conjunction with networking events). Require 100% attendance at the New CPA Inauguration.
Increase participation of Cabinet alumni. Invite local alums to Cabinet dinners held the night before Cabinet meetings (typically after YCPA socials).
Identify potential future Cabinet members. Solicit/review applications for 12 new members for upcoming term. Include application in conference materials and increase awareness of these at networking events. Host a Cabinet-sponsored table at the conference. Ensure as much diversity as possible (race, gender, geography, public/industry).
