Resources for New CPA Parents
The NCACPA Work/Life Issues Committee members recognize that new parents have a significant challenge balancing their personal and professional responsibilities. CPAs who are new parents are juggling much more than just work-related deadlines. As the number of two-income families continues to increase, the CPA profession must evolve to address the needs of this large segment of its population.

Low Cost/High Impact Rewards in the Workplace
The NC Association of CPAs Work/Life Issues Committee has compiled a list of easy, inexpensive, and successful rewards for employers, supervisors, or managers to use with their staff to help create a positive work environment. Several of the suggestions are for employees to use with other individual employees, as well.

2007-2008 Action Plan
Strategy:           Action:
Increase awareness among the young CPAs about the activities of the committee and ideas they can bring to their firms or companies to improve the workplace environment. Co-sponsor & attend the 2007 YCPA Conference Social. Provide 2 large signs for the committee at the conference. Make strong announcement about the co-sponsoring at the start of the social function.
Increase awareness among the young CPAs about the perceptions of the older generations of CPAs (owners and managers), how that relates to their own goals, and what they might do to effect positive change. Hold a final practice meeting in late May or early June. Present a scripted debate panel between members acting as "owners & staff," at the 2007 YCPA Conference.
Increase awareness of how to use work/life approaches to recruit and retain well qualified employees. To bring about change in this direction among member owners and managers. Present a 1-speaker chapter CPE program to inform owners and managers about work/life balance issues and how they impact recruitment and retention/succession. At a joint Piedmont-Northwest Piedmont Chapters meeting, Sandhills Chapter meeting, and Triangle Chapter meeting the presentation will come immediately before Jim Ahler's Professional Issues Update.
Disseminate W/L balance, personnel management, recruiting, retention, and training information; assist members with their related questions & concerns. Prepare and send out e-newsletter to 3,000 members, including owners, managers, supervisors, interested parties, subscriber requests, staff requests, & the NCACPA Board of Directors.
