Drumbeat for Easing Sarbanes-Oxley Grows Louder

Joining the chorus of voices demanding Sarbanes-Oxley reform, Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, Gov.-elect Eliot Spitzer, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg released a report on January 23 showing that financial services in New York City and other major US centers are hurting, and would take a significant hit in a few short years. Sarbanes-Oxley restrictions plus tightened immigration policy and a high risk of litigation are driving investors overseas and putting the leadership of US financial markets at risk, says the report, which was authored by McKinsey & Co.
