Young CPA Cabinet

Young CPAs in North Carolina are those willing to lead the profession in this state in a variety of ways. A special cabinet has been created to address the needs of CPAs aged 35 and under. Specifically, we intend to bring together young CPAs through a variety of social and service events. Additionally, we have developed an annual conference devoted entirely to young CPAs. Ultimately, we want to recruit young CPAs who will become the leadership of the profession in future years.

2008–09 Action Plan

Strategy:     Action:
Hold annual conference.   Work w/staff to plan/prepare the annual conference in Greensboro. Increase attendance and offer sponsorships (5-10).
Increase community service involvement in local NC communities.   Conduct 2 large, group-based projects per major metro area through partnerships w/outside entities and within NCACPA via chapters & Minority Issues Committee.
Increase student awareness of the Young CPAs in NC.   Invite students to attend the Emerging Leaders Conference at no charge.
Improve interaction with students.   Host speed networking events.
Formalize work opportunities for students.   Identify internship opportunities and post on NCACPA's website.
Get involved with student organizations on campus.   Contact accounting clubs (Beta Alpha Psi) for speaking opportunities and partnerships for community service.
Increase publicity of the Young CPAs throughout the state.   Develop a flyer that promotes the Cabinet and its efforts.
Identify potential future Cabinet members.   Increase number of applicants to 30 with earlier deadline and increased recruiting efforts.
Use small groups as a vehicle for developing social interaction.   Schedule small groups for the 3rd Thursday/month in major metro areas (every other month).
Maintain contact with members' employers.   Continues the tradition of annual thank-you letters to employers.
Maintain communication with association members.   Continue to publish articles of interest to/about Young CPAs in the Interim Report.
Pursue good communication w/relevant association entities.   Assign Cabinet liaisons for each of the chapters, Financial Literacy Council, Minority Issues Committee, Work/Life Committee, and Members in Business & Industry Committee.
Provide leadership development for young CPAs.   Continue to hold Cabinet meetings (in conjunction with networking events).
