Government Relations
No one does more to advance and safeguard your profession in North Carolina.
NCACPA strives to represent the profession’s interests in vital areas of public policy formation, standard-setting, and rule-making that would have impact on members, the profession as a whole, and the North Carolina business climate. Also, the association identifies and supports the campaigns of those legislators and candidates who understand the profession through our NC CPA Political Action Committee (PAC).
To be successful, we need members to get involved with the following initiatives. If you have an interest and wish to participate, please contact Jim Ahler, NCACPA CEO at (919) 469-1040 or jtahler@ncacpa.org.
Government Relations Advisory Group (GRAG)
The CPA profession is fortunate to have dedicated professionals in this state who understand the importance of being involved in government relations. NCACPA has an advisory group of knowledgeable members involved in actively monitoring the government relations landscape and alerting the association to matters requiring attention and response. This advisory group also is the first to be mobilized when a government relations action is deemed necessary. All of the members of the advisory group know members of the NC General Assembly and the Executive Branch of NC State Government they can call upon when needed.
Key Person Contact Program
Members of our profession have agreed to participate in the first line of communication with elected members of the NC House and Senate to communicate vital information to those lawmakers prior to an important vote on a topic of interest to the profession. These members have a personal, business, or family relationship with elected lawmakers and have agreed to deliver messages to those lawmakers quickly.
NC CPA Political Action Committee
The NC CPA Political Action Committee (NC CPA PAC) is the profession’s vehicle to provide financial support for candidates running for statewide office. Members of the profession may contribute up to $4,000. Members are encouraged to provide support for the NC CPA PAC because it supports potential lawmakers who are likeminded in their positions and will be friendly towards the profession. The PAC requests a minimum of $100 annually be contributed.
All contributions to the North Carolina CPA Political Action Committee (PAC) go directly to support candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly. North Carolina law requires these contributions be made by personal check or credit card. Contributions made by corporate or partnership checks/credit cards will be used for general government relations activities only. Payment can be mailed to the association at the address below or you can call our Member Service Center at (800) 469-1352.
Federal Key Contact Program
Members of the profession participate in the first line of communications with elected members of the US House of Representatives and Senate from North Carolina by communicating important information to those lawmakers prior to a crucial vote on a topic of interest to the profession. These members have a personal, business, or family relationship with elected US Congressmen and women, and agree to deliver information to the lawmakers quickly.
Federal Government/US Congress
Members of this profession regularly monitor activities at the federal level on behalf of the profession and this association. They monitor activities in Congress as well as the Executive and Judicial branches of government. They alert the association if activities should be more closely monitored and recommend if the association should take action.
