COMMITTEES

Sixteen committees offer members the opportunity to serve as important liaisons with other professionals and the general public. NCACPA committees and the board of directors interact with the AICPA, NC State Board of CPA Examiners, Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Internal Revenue Service, and other bodies that shape state and national standards.

Accounting and Attestation
The mission of the A&A Committee shall be to support and enhance the quality of accounting and attestation services provided by members of the NCACPA. The mission shall be accomplished by supporting members with timely educational, professional networking opportunities, technical resources and local and national advocacy efforts.

Accounting Education
Supports the development of accounting education and research. Attempts to improve the basic accounting education level of people entering the profession. Plans an annual Accounting Education Forum and assists in selecting winners for NC CPA Foundation Scholarships.

Financial Literacy
The Financial Literacy Council will lead the profession’s efforts in raising the financial education of North Carolina high school and college students by mobilizing its members, utilizing resources and materials available to CPAs, and leveraging partnerships with like-minded organizations.

Governmental Accounting & Auditing
The mission of the Governmental Accounting and Auditing Committee is to promote the practice of governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting through education, advocacy, and outreach.

Government Relations
The Government Relations Committee’s mission is to advance the goals of our profession in the state’s executive and legislative branches by engaging the maximum number of members in discourse with policy makers and regulators and to assist like-minded candidates get elected to state-wide office.

Healthcare Industry
Keeps members informed of developments concerning CPA services to the healthcare industry as well as state and federal regulations affecting this area. Coordinates CPE offerings concerning the healthcare industry.

International
The International Committee’s mission is to educate and be a resource for NCACPA members regarding international business.

Member Connections
Identify member needs and connect those needs to association activities, thereby increasing member engagement and participation.

Members in Business & Industry
Assures the association continues to be responsive to the needs of members in industry, education, and government. Stimulates interest among CPAs in industry to maintain their professional status and to actively participate in Association programs. Plans and conducts semi-annual Members in Business & Industry Conferences.

Minority Action
The Minority Action Committee actively seeks opportunities to promote the accounting profession within our communities and to increase minority representation within the profession. The committee also works to identify and create opportunities for the professional growth and development of minority CPAs.
 
Not-For-Profit
The mission of the Not-For-Profit Committee is to be the voice of the NCACPA membership in issues relating to not-for-profit accounting through education, advocacy, and outreach.

Peer Review
The mission of the NCACPA Peer Review Committee is to efficiently, effectively, and equitably oversee the administration, acceptance, and completion of peer reviews for members and non-members.
 
Professional Development
To ensure the NCACPA remains the leader in both shaping and providing the highest quality professional development opportunities for North Carolina CPAs.
 
Symposium
The mission of the Symposium Conference Committee is to develop program content for the 50 sessions, which make up the association’s flagship event, the Annual Symposium; a three-day event averaging 900 participants, 25 sponsors, and sessions presented by nationally recognized speakers and industry professionals.

Taxation
The Taxation Committee’s mission is to further the development of fair and reasonable legislated and administered taxation at the federal, state, and local level; to increase members’ awareness of responsibilities and opportunities for service in the areas of taxation; to enhance the public’s understanding of CPAs’ special competence in the field of taxation; and to meet annually with the IRS and the NC Department of Revenue personnel.
 
Work/Life Committee
Works to increase awareness of work/life balance issues among NCACPA members and recommends strategies for creating a more satisfactory balance in the professional and personal lives of CPAs.
 
Young CPA Cabinet
The Young CPA Cabinet’s mission is to provide young CPAs with networking, diversity, community outreach, and leadership development opportunities; to enhance the value of association membership for young members; to increase membership and connections within the association; and to inform the association leadership about topics relevant to its young members.
