As the
financial literacy initiative is catching on
throughout the state and growing within the
association, the Triangle Chapter wants to keep
the momentum going! As a member, you’ve heard
the ‘what’—Improving Financial Literacy in North
Carolina. You’ve even learned startling
statistics to explain the ‘why’—In order to
strengthen the state’s economy and our personal
financial future, we must learn how to reduce
debt and build wealth. However, the one
component you may feel is missing is the ‘how?’
How do we, as members of the association, affect
the community in such a significant way? To help
answer this question, the NCACPA Triangle
Chapter has put together the missing pieces of
the ‘who’ and the ‘where’ you can help improve
financial literacy in North Carolina! As for
‘when’….it’s simple—there’s no better time than
right now!
Get involved
today! Choose an organization near and dear to
your heart—the rewards are priceless!
Business Alliance, WCPSS
You
can positively impact the education of our next
generation.
Volunteer
at Wake County Public Middle and High Schools by
working with the schools’ Business Alliance
Committee, Career Counselor Coordinators, and
teachers to provide financial education to our
teenage students. Volunteer opportunities
include speaking to small groups, working one on
one with students, serving on a Business
Alliance Committee, participating in round table
discussions, and volunteering at a booth during
Career Fairs.
Boys & Girls Club
Interested in an after-school opportunity and like
to work with kids?
The Boys and Girls Club of Wake County wants you! Volunteer
to be an instructor for the Money Matters financial literacy
program targeted for adolescents/young teens. The curriculum
is provided and the program is held at seven convenient
locations throughout Wake County.
Capital Area Workforce Development -
SAVVYouth
Interested in
providing youth with the financial tools they need as they
enter the workforce?
Volunteer
at one of 5 area Career & College centers in Raleigh,
Smithfield, and Clayton. The majority of youth do not have
the basic financial skills they need as they enter the
workforce for the first time. Opportunities to work with the
youth include presenting financial topics, participating in
round table discussions, and one on one mentoring around
financial topics.
Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina
Teach young people how to succeed in the real world
If you believe in the potential of young people, have a
passion for honesty and excellence, and believe in the power
of partnership and collaboration—the Junior Achievement
wants you to help make a difference in children's lives!
StepUP Ministry
Helping
at-risk families get back on their feet.
You can help transform lives by volunteering as an
instructor on basic budgeting, serving as a mentor, or
working one-on-one with families
as they work to manage their money and become
self-sufficient. StepUP Ministry provides individuals and
families with a second chance at life, supporting them in
their commitment to be
independent, productive members of our community. The StepUP
program teaches basic life skills, offers the support of a
caring community, provides safe housing, and opens the door
for life-sustaining employment.
The Center for Volunteer Caregiving
Neighbor helping Neighbor
You can make a difference in someone’s life by volunteering
to provide help with organizing mail and paperwork, light
housekeeping, yard work or transportation, or simply a
friendly visit. Volunteering opportunities are flexible
to meet your schedule. Think of something simple you might
do to help a neighbor – that’s what we do to help Wake
County seniors, family caregivers, and adults with
disabilities maintain independence, dignity and quality of
life.
Help needed to begin a new service for Wake County.
Many older adults or adults with disabilities have trouble
managing money, from writing checks and paying bills to
setting up a budget to understanding investments. The Center
for Volunteer Caregiving seeks 2-3 volunteers to serve on a
committee to study the development of a money management
program through The Center.
Additional volunteer opportunities coming soon…
Triangle Family
Services is a
local United Way agency helping families and children
achieve Family Safety, Financial Security, and Mental
Health. We'd like to explore how NCACPA volunteers can
assist with the existing Consumer Credit Counseling
Services.
College students
are faced with many financial obstacles and temptations. By
collaborating with Student Societies and Student Affairs of
Triangle colleges, we'd like to find ways to reach these
students and equip them with the financial tools they need
to succeed.
Capital Area
Workforce Development,
in addition to SAVVYouth, provides assistance to individuals
of all ages, seeking employment or job training. We are
exploring ways our volunteers can assist these participants
with their financial literacy needs at the existing 6 Wake
County Joblink Centers.
If you have contacts within the groups above, or have other
ideas for volunteer opportunities, please contact your
Triangle Chapter Financial Literacy Co-Chairs!
